Superfast Essex celebrates hat trick of high-level recognition

Broadband programme shortlisted for awards

Superfast Essex has been recognised for its success and excellence nationally and internationally after being shortlisted for three prestigious awards.

Essex County Council’s superfast broadband programme has been selected as a potential winning candidate for its achievements in superfast broadband delivery as well as team performance and project excellence.

The three awards Superfast Essex has been shortlisted for are:

- Next Gen Digital Challenge Awards – Connected Britain Award
- UK IT Industry Awards – IT Project Team of the Year
- World Communications Awards – Broadband Pioneer Award

Superfast Essex, which has so far enabled 95,000 homes and businesses to access superfast broadband and is aiming to reach 99% of Essex by 2021, is up against some large household names from around the globe across the three award categories including Barclays, Centrica, Deutsche Bank, HMRC, Hyperoptic, Gigaclear, and Huawei.

It is one of six shortlisted entries for the Connected Britain Award, one of 10 shortlisted for the IT Project Team of the Year Award, and one of seven shortlisted for the Broadband Pioneer Award.

Essex County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Skills, Infrastructure and Digital Economy, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Superfast Essex to be shortlisted for not one but three high profile awards. It is testament to the ongoing hard work of the team and recognition the programme deserves. I wish Superfast Essex the best of luck as the results are announced in the coming months.”

The NextGen Digital Challenge Awards celebrate innovation, success and leadership in next generation digital innovation in the UK.

The UK IT Industry Awards celebrate IT excellence and rewards organisations who have contributed to the development and deployment of innovative IT systems that improve business operations or enhance public services.

The World Communication Awards is recognised as the most prestigious global telecoms awards and rewards innovation, merit and outstanding performance in the telecoms field.

The winners of all three awards will be decided by independent judging panels of industry experts in October and November.
