On ‘Cyber Monday’ register your interest for superfast broadband

Get superfast broadband today

Monday 3 December 2012 is being called ‘Cyber Monday’ as online retailers are expecting a 30% increase in traffic to their sites as people shop online for Christmas gifts for friends and relatives.

Essex County Council is calling on Essex residents that may go online that day, so pay a quick visit to www.essex.gov.uk/ruralboradband and register their need for faster broadband where they live.

Essex County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Waste and Recycling said, “Whilst our residents spend time surfing the internet trying to find the best deal for various Christmas gifts and surprises for loved ones they may become frustrated by slow internet speeds. By completing a quick survey on our website, it will help with potential upgrades in the future.”

Currently there are approximately 180,000 households (30%) in the county that do not receive superfast broadband services of at least 24mbs. The aim of this project is to enable 90% of the Essex population to be able to receive superfast broadband by 2015.

To register your interest in getting superfast broadband at home, visit www.essex.gov.uk/ruralbroadband. If you are unable to access the internet, visit local libraries to use the computers for free. Library staff will be on hand to assist anyone that isn’t sure.
