Event to help community connect to the superfast highway

Faster connectivity in rural Essex

Residents and businesses in and around St Osyth are invited to an event to find out about getting connected to fibre broadband now the Superfast Essex programme has upgraded parts of the network in the area.

The event is being hosted by the Superfast Essex team at St Osyth Village Hall, on Tuesday 2 June, from 4pm to 7pm. Residents and businesses can drop in at a time that suits them. Anyone who wishes to attend the St Osyth event is encouraged to register for free here: http://superfastessex-in-st-osyth.eventbrite.com.

The aim of the event is to give communities the opportunity to find out more about the benefits of having faster connectivity, to check if they can access the fibre network deployed so far, and find out what they need to do next to get a fibre broadband service.

This is the first in a series of events which will be held in different communities where the Superfast Essex programme has enabled fibre broadband.

Essex County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Infrastructure and Waste & Recycling, said: “The Superfast Essex programme is doing an important job in making better internet connectivity available across the county for business growth and improved quality of life, but nobody is automatically connected and we want to make sure everyone makes the most of it when it arrives. These events will help to inform residents and businesses about the benefits and what they need to do to get a fibre broadband service once fibre arrives.”

This event is aimed at, but not restricted to, communities connected to the cabinets which have been upgraded by this programme served mainly by the St Osyth and Brightlingsea exchanges. Those connected to cabinets served by the Little Clacton and Clacton-on-Sea exchanges are also welcome.

These upgraded cabinets are spread across the following wards:

St Osyth and Point Clear
Brightlingsea
Golf Green
Pier
Burrsville
Little Clacton & Weeley
A full list of the cabinets which have been fibre-enabled by the Superfast Essex programme is here: www.superfastessex.org/cabinets.

Work to upgrade the broadband network to fibre across Essex is still ongoing. The first phase of work is now halfway through. So far 163 cabinets have been upgraded enabling more than 32,500 homes and businesses to access fibre broadband. The second phase of work is being planned.
