Event to help community connect to the superfast highway (Tollesbury)

Learn about superfast broadband

Residents and businesses in and around Tollesbury are invited to an event to find out about getting connected to fibre broadband now the Superfast Essex programme has upgraded parts of the network in the area.

The event is being hosted by the Superfast Essex team at Tollesbury Community Centre, on Tuesday 20 October, from 7pm to 9pm. Residents and businesses can drop in at a time that suits them. Anyone who wishes to attend the Tollesbury event is encouraged to register for free here: http://superfastessex-in-tollesbury.eventbrite.com.

The aim of the event is to give communities the opportunity to find out more about the benefits of having faster connectivity, to check if they can access the fibre network deployed so far, and find out what they need to do next to get a fibre broadband service.

This is the latest in a series of events which are being held in different communities where the Superfast Essex programme has enabled fibre broadband.

Essex County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Infrastructure and Waste & Recycling, said: “The Superfast Essex programme is doing an important job in making better internet connectivity available across the county for business growth and improved quality of life, but nobody is automatically connected and we want to make sure everyone makes the most of it when it arrives. These events will help to inform residents and businesses about the benefits and what they need to do to get a fibre broadband service once fibre arrives.”

This event is aimed at, but not restricted to, communities connected to the cabinets which have been upgraded by this programme served by the Tollesbury exchange in the Tollesbury and Tolleshunt D’Arcy Wards – cabinets 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. Those connected to cabinets served by other exchanges are also welcome.

The upgraded cabinets are spread across the following parishes:

Tollesbury
Tolleshunt D’Arcy
Tolleshunt Knights
Tolleshunt Major
A full list of the cabinets which have been fibre-enabled by the Superfast Essex programme is here: www.superfastessex.org/cabinets. This page also includes a link to a tool to help people identify which cabinet their address is connected to.

Work to upgrade the broadband network to fibre across Essex is still ongoing. More cabinets are being upgraded every week enabling thousands more homes and businesses to access superfast fibre broadband. By summer 2016 we expect to reach 65,000; and planning is already underway to extend coverage to a further 51,000 by 2019 with the aim of achieving 95% superfast coverage across the whole county.
