Interactive rollout map

Find out if fibre broadband is or will be available in your area by using our interactive map.

Our interactive map is always best viewed in full screen: CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE MAP IN FULL SCREEN. We are continuing to improve the embedded version of the map below.

Please note: On mobile/tablet devices the address search box will auto hide; please use the blue expand button to open/close the Address Search, Map Categories and Other Information pane. This may not apply on larger screens.

Instructions on how to use the map are provided below.

Map instructions

Enter your property name or number and postcode separated by a space or comma in the “Find Address” box, e.g. 66a CM1 1JP.

Do not press enter - allow the address search to run and then click on your address when it pops up.

The map will zoom in to your property and show the colour category for your address. Click on the marker over your premises on the map to view the status information for your address. This will be shown in the pop-up box on the right. Full explanations of each of the map categories are outlined in detail below the map.

Please note:

  • If Superfast Essex is upgrading a cabinet in your postcode, the cabinet name will be shown in the Status field once known.

  • If the named cabinet due for upgrade is in the BT Openreach rollout, we recommend you visit BT's DSL Checker to see whether the cabinet we are upgrading serves you, as a single postcode can be served by more than one cabinet.

  • If the named cabinet due for upgrade is in the Gigaclear rollout, your address will be served. Gigaclear is building an entirely new network with new cabinets. You can visit the Gigaclear website or our Gigaclear Rollout Page for more information about what is planned.

  • If your address is planned for a Superfast Essex upgrade but the Status field does not provide the name of a cabinet, this is because the upgrade solution for your address has not yet been decided or the detailed planning survey for your area has not yet been completed and the name of the cabinet is not yet determined. Further information will become available on the map once a detailed planning survey for the area has been completed. Please note, under the BT rollout we are working to upgrade exchange only lines where possible as well as upgrading cabinets.

The “Other Information” box highlights any events or information for your area, along with links to contact the Superfast Essex team.

Map categories in detail

Fibre or wireless broadband available:

Your address is already able to access, or due to have access within the next three years, to superfast broadband. One of the following will be relevant to your address:

  1. Fibre or wireless broadband available or planned (not part of the Superfast Essex programme) - This status relates to commercial rollout plans and coverage which is separate to the Superfast Essex programme. We have been given evidence that fibre or wireless broadband services are either already available in this postcode area as a result of wireless or fibre broadband operators' own plans, or are due to become available within the next three years. Contact a broadband service provider today to find out what services and speeds are available and ask to switch or buy fibre or wireless broadband.
  2. Fibre upgrade completed by Superfast Essex to Cabinet X. Estimated d/speed X (Mbps) - Superfast Essex has upgraded or installed a cabinet within this postcode and fibre broadband is available to the premises covered by this cabinet. The pop-up box on the map will state which cabinets have been upgraded, and BT’s DSL checker shows which cabinet you are connected to. The pop-up box and DSL Checker will also indicate the download speeds which should be available to you. Nobody is automatically connected to the upgraded service once installed, you need to contact a broadband service provider to switch or buy fibre broadband.

Fibre broadband planned:

Your address is due to be fibre-enabled under the Superfast Essex programme. Work is either planned or underway to your address as part of one of the following:

  1. Our fibre broadband rollout with BT Openreach (under Phase 2a or Phase 3, scheduled for completion by December 2019), or
  2. Our fibre broadband rollout with Gigaclear (under Phase 2b: Rural Challenge Project in Epping Forest District, scheduled for completion by December 2017; or Phase 3, scheduled for completion by December 2019)

Timescales for delivery will appear in the pop-up box on the map for each address where available. All timescales will default to indicate completion by the end of the overall rollout phase. We receive a six-month rolling view of which areas are due to be upgraded next and will update the map to display the six-month view once available. Please note, all work remains subject to change. Once work is complete, the status will be changed to pink - 'Fibre or wireless broadband available'. In some instances some properties may find a service is available before all work is complete, so if your address is in the six-month view you may want to contact a broadband service provider before that six-month period ends to see if you can switch to fibre.

If Superfast Essex is upgrading a cabinet in your postcode, the cabinet name will be shown in the Status field. There will be a link to indicate whether the work is part of the Gigaclear or BT Openreach rollout.

  • If your address is planned for a Superfast Essex upgrade but the Status field does not provide the name of a cabinet, this is because the upgrade solution for your address has not yet been decided or the detailed planning survey for your area has not yet been completed and the name of the cabinet has not yet been determined. Further information will become available on the map once a detailed planning survey for the area has been completed. Please note, under the BT rollout we are working to upgrade exchange only lines where possible as well as upgrading cabinets.

Not in current plans or fibre or wireless broadband under review:

Your address is not currently in any Superfast Essex plans for an upgrade to superfast broadband. This will be due to one of the reasons listed below. You can register your demand for superfast broadband by completing our Make the Connection survey here. If you are currently unable to access a download speed of more than 2Mbps you may be eligible for a basic satellite or wireless broadband solution under the Better Broadband Scheme. For more information on the different broadband technologies available, tips to improve your existing speed, and other options you could explore to improve broadband at your address, please see our FAQs.

  1. With the funds currently available to the programme it is not possible to secure fibre coverage for the whole of the county. Unfortunately these premises are not included in the Superfast Essex rollout plans at this stage. Note: These properties do remain eligible for future investment if further funding becomes available to extend our fibre rollout.
  2. Superfast Essex has upgraded or installed a cabinet that covers premises within this postcode, although they are still unable to receive a superfast service. Whilst this may be the case, it is still advisable to check what services you may be able to achieve as there still may be a significant speed uplift compared to the current service. Note: These properties remain eligible for future investment if further funding becomes available to extend our fibre rollout.
  3. The Superfast Essex programme is currently reviewing potential provision in the area from a commercial supplier. Note: Whilst this review is ongoing, properties within this area are not eligible for future investment. This status will change once the review has been concluded. If you don't believe you are able to access a service from any of the commercial network operators available in Essex, Superfast Essex would like to hear from you. We would need evidence that a superfast broadband service is not available. You can get in touch via the online contact us form.
