Superfast Essex

Better Broadband Scheme

Overview

The Government has committed to giving every premises in the UK access to a minimum of 2Mbps download. As part of this commitment, Superfast Essex in conjunction with Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) is offering a basic broadband service at a capped cost for eligible premises. This Better Broadband Scheme (also referred to as the UK Government Subsidy Scheme and formerly known as the Basic Broadband Scheme) will give support towards the cost of equipment and installation of a satellite or wireless broadband connection so that a basic broadband service can be purchased for a first year cost of no more than £400 (taking account of any upfront costs and the 12 month service charges). Customers signing up under the scheme can also choose service packages with higher speeds or greater monthly data caps if they are happy to spend more.

Are you eligible?

This scheme is available for both residential and business premises that do not currently have access to broadband speeds of more than 2Mbps from any national or local broadband provider. In addition, your premises must not already be due to be fibre enabled under Superfast Essex’s rollout plans in the next 6 months.

Note: Premises owned by a business that has received public subsidy in the past may be subject to State Aid restrictions if the total subsidy received within the last 3 years, including the subsidy under this scheme, amounts to more than €200,000.

**Please ensure you provide your full name and email address, or the system will not allow a code to be issued**

  • Check our interactive map to ensure that no work is planned in your postcode area under the Superfast Essex fibre broadband rollout over the next 6 months.

Co-funded Communities

Owners or occupiers of premises who are eligible under the Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme may wish to work with a broadband provider to co-fund a broadband network in their community, rather than use their subsidy code individually to take up a discounted satellite/4G broadband connection or to access an existing wireless network.

BDUK issued guidelines about this can be found here: Guidance for communities on aggregating subsidy codes under the BBS.pdf
